How does speaking another language effect a relationship?

I’m italian and italian is my native language. In the past i got into relationships with abroad girls which led me to speak english, although I felt like not speaking with my own words.. I felt like being another person, it felt really strange. More than often i didnt recognize myself into my own words.
Would you ever consider speaking in another language to help a possible love-relationship develop in order to get closer and more self confidential with your beloved? Would you be ready to set up a complete new mindset?
